Niijii Films was founded by Barbara Ettinger and Sven Huseby, who are also married (to each other).

Their first project together was Two Square Miles a documentary about the town of Hudson, NY, broadcast repeatedly on PBS’ Independent Lens strand. Two Square Miles is an extended observation of an American small town in transition, raising questions about Hudson’s future that are mirrored in changing communities across the nation. The film was described by Robert Downey, Sr., as “moving, original, and relevant to anyone involved in what it means to live in a community.”

A Sea Change is Niijii Films’ second project.

Niijii means “friend”

“Niijii” means “friend” in Ojibway, an American Indian language. It’s also the name of Barbara and Sven’s 14-year-old chocolate labrador.
